ANGLING

There is plenty of fishing excursions to keep you busy with day and weekly permits available from both the Appleby Angling Association and the Kirkby Stephen District Angling Association to cover many miles of the River Eden and its many tributaries.

Appleby Anging Association controls approximately 20 miles of fishing on the Rivers Eden and Lyvennet. In addition, by the use of exchange tickets with neighbouring clubs, members have extensive access to excellent fishing on the River Eden and other rivers in Cumbria.

Appleby AA waters on the River Eden are widely considered to be perfect in terms of scale for the healthy populations of trout and grayling. Nymph and dry fly fishing provide the best of the sport through the spring, summer and autumn months, while the nymph is supreme for winter grayling.

Kirkby Stephen and District Angling Association controls some 9 miles of fishing on the River Eden with a further 4 miles on the River Belah and Scandal Beck. No stocking is carried out and all these waters offer fly fishing for wild brown trout amid beautiful scenery.

To help maintain our stock of wild brown trout we encourage the use of barbless hooks and the safe return of all healthy fish. Membership is open to all and is free to those under 18. Day tickets are available.
